Often you can get a suitable transcript from your school. If this is not the case, you will need official translations along with verified copies of the original.
The translations need to be signed and stamped by an authorized translator.
You must take the original entry qualification documents along with you when you finally go to the university.
You don’t need to submit any English language tests since your English proficiency will be measured in the online entrance exam.
If you meet the eligibility criteria, you will be invited for an online entrance exam.
You can also apply with a SAT test with a minimum score of 400 from Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and 400 from Mathematics. If you submit an SAT test result, you don’t need to participate in the entrance exam.
Demand for international construction experts is increasing continuously in international construction projects in Finland and abroad. HAMK aims to provide its future graduates with the necessary skills for a professional construction engineer to succeed in today’s competitive job market.
Construction engineers must have a view of the entire construction process in addition to their specialty. Work requires, in addition to professional knowledge management, problem-solving abilities, financial thinking, management skills, cooperation skills, IT skills and language skills. A lot of emphasis is put on all of those skills during the degree program. Moreover, a degree completed in English provides construction engineers with good language skills and international know-how, making it possible to work anywhere in the world.
Construction Engineering studies focus on structural engineering, especially on steel construction engineering. Studies include mechanics, mathematics, technical drawings and CAD. Understanding of the structures, and 3-D visualization skills are important.
During the studies it is possible to achieve credits required by A-class structural engineer qualifications:
- Structural mechanics – 16 credits
- Concrete construction and technology – 8 credits
- Concrete structure engineering – 8 credits
- Steel structure engineering – 8 credits
- Timber structure engineering – 12 credits
- Construction physics – 5 credits
There are additional possibilities to study abroad by completing a
double degree, partly at HAMK and partly at Danish VIA University College.
The tasks of engineering graduates may be related to the construction of new premises and to the repair of existing structures in engineering or project management in Finland and abroad. Daily tasks may involve design, product development, supervision in an official capacity, or trading.
